Description
"White ground" (jishiro 地白), "main stencil" (omogata 主型). Combination of OR 3925-121-1 and OR 3925-121-2: scattered pattern with butterflies, flowers and flower cards (hanafuda 花札). The butterflies (chō 蝶), which undergo unusual shape change during their lives, are considered a symbol of immortality. Since it is said that butterflies spend their entire lives with the same partner, they also represent marital harmony, so they are often used as motifs on wedding kimonos. Ishigaki 石垣: stone wall.
