Sammlungen, gleich welcher Art , sind unentbehrliche Zeitdokumente. Sie geben Auskunft darüber, wie Menschen vor uns gedacht und gelebt haben. Gleichzeitig sind sie immer auch Ausdruck der Wertigkeiten ihrer Entstehungsperiode. Die Sammlung Dr. Albert Figdor, angelegt in Wien zwischen 1869 und 1927, war die größte und bedeutendste bürgerliche Privatsammlung ihrer Zeit. Im Mittelpunkt von Figdors Sammelleidenschaft standen Gegenstände jeder Art, denen bei aller Unterschiedlichkeit ihr künstlerischer wie kulturgeschichtlicher Wert gemein ist. Das MAK öffnet nun sein Depot und dokumentiert am Beispiel von ausgewählten Sammlungsobjekten - Textilien, Kleinmöbeln, Werkzeugen, Besteck, Schmuck, Gläsern, Keramiken - die Wohn-, Arbeits- und Lebenswelt vom Mittelalter bis hinein ins 19. Jahrhundert.
