Description
During the conflicts at the end of the Ming period (1368–1644), the furnaces of the imperial manufactory in Jingdezhen were destroyed. Reconstruction under the Kangxi emperor (1662–1722) was accompanied by and experimental mentality that led to the development of new glazes and colors. It was difficult to combine cobalt blue and copper red under the glaze, yet even a pale celadon green was added in a few pieces. This vase from the 2nd half of the 18th century is remarkable for the fusion of its harmonious form with picturesque decoration from bird-and-flower painting. (Wieninger, Johannes)
