Tōtōmi 遠江 ist eine der 15 Provinzen der Tōkaidō 東海道. Ursprünglich hieß der See Hamana Tōtōmi, später wurde die Provinz Tōtōmi genannt. Das aufgrund seiner heißen Quellen beliebte Kanzanji 舘山寺 ist bekannt, weil der Tempel der shingon-Sekte (shingon-shū 真言宗) angeblich vom Priester Kūkai 空海 (774–835) erbaut worden ist.
