Description
-
The model for this fitted carpet, which was reproduced in England, is a small fragment produced in 1820 by
the imperial royal Linz woolen wares factory in Linz and sent to the factory products cabinet as a sample. The Linz manufactory was the largest wool processing textile factory in Austria and produced woolen wares from 1672 to 1850. As here, the carpets from the beginning of its production bore a pattern in the style of a late classicist ceiling decoration. They filled the entire room and were intended to complement the ceilings. The Biedermeier penchant for using complementary colors is reflected in the decoration of the carpet.
