Description
-
Although small in format, this garden carpet is among the most famous and earliest preserved of its type. Owing to its technical peculiarities, it is the only carpet of the Kerman group that features gold and silver brocade, making it unique. The
field depicts a garden, consisting of six parts, carried into the plain, an extended “chahar bagh,“ the characteristic garden form of the time: water channels and basins, once brocaded in silver, structure the field. Fish and ducks scrimmage in the water courses; the individual compartments are vegetated and populated with animals. An exemplar closely related in terms of motif is located today in the collection of the Maharajah
of Jaipur.
