Description
-
Ceramics with celadon glaze from Longquan were popular—and not only in China—for their jadelike color. Large dishes for communal mealtimes were mainly exported to Islamic countries. The very fine drawing of a peony flower shows the exquisite quality of ceramic decoration in the Yuan period. The peony, a neutral and innocuous motif, is found very frequently as decoration on export wares so as to correspond to the different customs and practices of the purchasers.
