Biografie: ALICE FISCHER Kunsthandwerkerin, Universitätslektorin, *27.9.1907 Wien, †24.6.2004 Buncombe (USA); mos. – Tochter des Arztes Dr. Isidor F. und Marianne, geb. Baum. 1923–27 Studium an der KGS bei Franz Čižek, Eugen Steinhof, Adolf Boehm und Erich Mallina sowie bei Josef Hoffmann (FK Architektur). Lebte als freiberufliche Designerin in Berlin und entwarf u. a. Tapetenmuster. Nach der nationalsozialistischen Machtergreifung Rückkehr nach Wien, 1938 Emigration nach Frankreich. Über Casablanca, wo sie interniert war, 1941 in die USA. Keramische Schmuckentwürfe. Studium der Kunstgeschichte und Doktorat über französische Skulptur der Gotik an der Columbia University, dort ab 1963 Lehrbeauftragte für mittelalterliche Kunst. Umzug nach North Carolina, wo F. bis zu ihrem Tod Collagen, Druckgrafiken und Zeichnungen anfertigte. Aus der Zeit um 1959 hat sich ein Briefwechsel mit → Marianne Leisching erhalten, in dem beide Künstlerinnen ihre Erinnerungen an die WW festhielten (MAK, WW-Archiv). Für die WW entwarf Alice Fischer Stoffmuster und Gebrauchsgrafik. She lived as a freelance designer in Berlin and designed wallpaper patterns and other things. After the Nazis’ rise to power, she returned to Vienna, in 1938 she emigrated to France. In 1941, she emigrated to the USA via Casablanca, where she was interned. Ceramic jewelry designs. She studied art history and completed a doctorate on French Gothic sculpture at Columbia University where she became a lecturer for medieval art in 1963. Relocation to North Carolina, where F. created collages, prints, and drawings until her death. From the time around 1959, letters between F. and → Marianne Leisching have survived in which both artists recorded their memories of the WW (MAK, WW Archive). For the WW, Alice Fischer designed textile patters and commercial art.
