Mehr als ein Fünftel der Weltbevölkerung lebt ohne Anschluss an das Stromnetz, was bedeutet, dass keine Energieversorgung zum Betrieb elektrischer Geräte verfügbar ist. Das schließt auch Kühlschränke ein, sodass Lebensmittel und P anzen, die zur ausreichenden und gesunden Ernährung notwendig sind, schnell verderben und nicht mehr zur Verfügung stehen. Der TERRACOOLER ist ein universell einsetzbares ökologisches Kühlgerät. Die doppelwandige, glockenförmige Terrakotta dient der natürlichen Kühlung und Konservierung von Nahrungsmitteln. Die Innentemperatur kühlt gegenüber der Außentemperatur um etwa 25 bis 40 Prozent ab und macht die gekühlten Produkte bis zu zehnmal länger haltbar. Das Projekt wurde als „Donationware“ online verö entlicht, das Design ist kostenlos und global verfügbar. More than one- fth of the world’s population is living without connection to electricity. This means, that there is no energy supply to run electronic devices. This includes fridges. Consequently, food and plants needed for a su cient and healthy diet perish quickly and are no longer available. TERRACOOLER is a universally usable ecological cooler. The double-walled, bell-shaped terracotta naturally cools and preserves food. The inside temperature is approximately 25 to 40 percent cooler than the outside temperature, resulting in the cooled products lasting up to ten times longer. The project was published online as “donationware,” the design is globally available for free.
