The 3-D printed gun the liberator is a radical implementation of the open source idea, which views every human as “prosumer,” i.e. as somebody who both produces and consumes products. The general availability of open source construction manuals and 3-D printers results in immediate, local production, on the one hand, of manifold and useful items and, on the other hand of illegal products such as drugs, medical equipment, or even weapons.
