Description
Werkstätte Hagenauer (1898–1986) was one of Vienna’s leading workshops for arts and crafts products involving metal. While their output from around 1900 can be classified as Viennese Jugendstil, later products from the 1910s and 1920s owe much to the style of the Wiener Werkstätte. It was under the leadership of Karl and Franz Hagenauer that this workshop had its most productive period, arriving at a style of its own that was at first related to Art Deco and later on shifted towards New Objectivity. This development was one of absolute reduction to a pure, clear, mostly unornamented formal language, as can be seen in this smooth, horizontally ovular footed bowl. (Schmuttermeier, Elisabeth)
