Description: Teller mit farbig gemalter Hirschjagd zu Pferde, im Hintergrund auf einem Bergrücken ein Dorf
20 plates by Ferdinando Maria Campani, Siena, c.1740-45. By far the largest and best group of works by this excellent maiolica painter anywhere. See S. Berg in Keramos 164 (1999) for a very good study of this group, which seem to have been sent up from Siena to Holitsch and copied there.. It is very difficult in general to tell Campani from Terchi but I think Berg is right to say all these must be Campani, Siena, about 1745. All of them have the back made in exactly the same way, very slightly convex beneath, with no foot ring and no trimming away at the centre. Does this clearly distinguish them from the Holitsch copies ?
