"Dyed ground" (jizomari 地染). A shōchikubai 松竹梅 motif with auspicious animals (cranes and tortoises).
The motif shōchikubai 松竹梅 (pine, bamboo, plum) is one of the "auspicious patterns" (kisshō monyō 吉祥文様).
Cranes and tortoises (tsuru kame 鶴亀)are considered symbols of good luck in Japan, as cranes and tortoises are also symbols of longevity. There is a saying that cranes can live a thousand years and tortoises ten thousand years (“tsuru wa sen'nen, kame wa man'nen 鶴は千年、亀は万年”).
