Description
"Dyed ground" (jizomari 地染). The crane (tsuru 鶴) is considered a being that “connects heaven and earth” because its call is high and can be heard far into the sky. Since most cranes remain monogamous for life, they symbolize eternal love and loyalty. The crane motif is auspicious and represents longevity and marital harmony. It is often used for celebratory occasions and is especially common on wedding attire. The pattern of evergreen pine trees that withstand the severe winter cold is auspicious and a symbol of both longevity and sobriety, as well as the prosperity of the descendants. Stencils for komon 小 紋 ("fine pattern") are mostly made in the drill cutting technic. The pattern of komon is not oriented in a specific direction and is so fine that it appears monochrome from a distance.
