Description
    "Dyed ground" (jizomari 地染). The blossom of the plum (BAI/ume 梅) is a symbol of the beginning of spring, as it begins to bloom in the cold season. The plum blossom pattern is auspicious and represents longevity, endurance and prosperity of the descendants. Stencils for komon 小 紋 ("fine pattern") are mostly made in the drill cutting technic. The pattern of komon is not oriented in a specific direction and is so fine that it appears monochrome from a distance.
