Description
"Dyed ground" (jizomari 地染). Due to their long lifespan and good reproductive capacity, wisteria (fuji 藤) is considered auspicious and is frequently celebrated in the oldest poetry (Man'yōshū 万葉集). The wisteria was also the family crest of the Fujiwara clan. Stencils for komon 小 紋 ("fine pattern") are mostly made in the drill cutting technic. The pattern of komon is not oriented in a specific direction and is so fine that it appears monochrome from a distance.
