Minogame 蓑亀: turtle with seaweed tuft, a symbol of longevity.
The motif crane and turtle (tsuru kame 鶴亀) belongs to the category kisshō monyō 吉祥文様 (auspicious pattern), because cranes and tortoises are symbols of longevity. There is a saying that cranes can live a thousand years and tortoises ten thousand years (“tsuru wa sen'nen, kame wa man'nen 鶴は千年、亀は万年”).
