Description

"Dyed ground" (jizomari 地染), "main stencil" (omogata 主型). Calabashes with flowers (e.g. bellflower) and Susuki grass, with phoenix, kikkō 亀甲 with blossom and small dots (arare あられ = hailstones), with dragon, small dots (arare あられ = hailstones) and ?.
Susuki grass (susuki 薄) and balloon flower (kikyō 桔梗) are among the ‘Seven Autumn Grasses’ (aki no nanakusa 秋の七草).
