Description
-
"Dyed ground" (jizomari 地染).
Matsukawabishi 松皮菱 = combination of 3 diamonds; matsukawa 松皮 = pine-bark, bishi/hishi 菱 = diamond.
The butterflies (chō 蝶), which undergo unusual shape change during their lives, are considered a symbol of immortality. Since it is said that butterflies spend their entire lives with the same partner, they also represent marital harmony, so they are often used as motifs on wedding kimonos.
The blossom of the plum (BAI/ume 梅) is a symbol of the beginning of spring, as it begins to bloom in the cold season. The plum blossom pattern is auspicious and represents longevity, endurance and prosperity of the descendants.
